SAND 2019: From Quarks to Love

September 11, 2019 by Adrian

Science & Non-Duality (SAND) Conference Description

For scientists, bonds and connections are essential to the working of the universe; for mystics, love is the ultimate principle. From the depths of physics to the delights of being human, relationships make life possible.

The mechanistic view of reality which sees the world as separate objects, separate individuals, communities and nations, has led to fragmentation in every aspect of life. We are now realizing that, from quarks to people, from gut bacteria to galaxies, it’s all about interconnectedness, cooperation, and symbiosis.

This year, SAND will be bringing together some of the brightest minds in science, along with spiritual teachers from various traditions and artists, in a quest to expand and deepen our understanding and experience of our relational nature through the two lenses of science and spirituality. We will explore and integrate our human knowledge and experience around the theme of relationships. We will inquire into the many scales of relationship we are part of, from microbes and bacteria to mushrooms and trees, to people and families, to galaxies and black holes.

At the end of the day, no matter how complex the field of study becomes, the innate intelligence and reflective nature of the universe shines through. Love is what breathes life into the equations; Love is the field in which the quarks and human beings relate.

We will meet you there.

The Trap of Being Right
There is a special area of the Matrix reserved for people who think they have exited the Matrix. The answers to metaphysical questions—and indeed political questions, personal questions—are usually less important than the process that the question launches. Here we will explore the power of the question and the power of not-knowing, with special reference to science, politics, the maintenance of consensus reality, and the moments when love shines through.

The Guardian at the Threshold
What stands in the way to attain a higher level of creativity and effectiveness in service to Gaia? Many of us can sense a next step, and feel the desire to up our game. To get there, something will be gained and something will be lost. In this gathering, we will initiate and accelerate that process.

Institute of Noetic Sciences 2019 International Conference

May 15, 2019 by Adrian

I will be giving the following talk on Saturday at the upcoming Institute of Noetic Sciences 2019 International Conference.

Eco-healing: A Lovers’ Reunion

Today’s ecological crisis can be understood as the inevitable terminus of an age-old story of separation. Just as the extreme of yang gives birth to yin, so it is that the most iconic achievement of civilization – space travel – was a watershed moment in the recovery of ecological consciousness. This lecture will weave this thread into the tapestry of a new story, and a new-and-ancient relationship to Earth, that poses humanity with an initiatory choice today.

From the presenters:

“We will be gathering on the 50th anniversary of the first moonwalk, to explore what is possible for humanity when we bring science, spirituality, and social change together to vision and co-create a thriving future. Hear the latest science in consciousness and extraordinary human capacities, engage with innovative technology and healing arts, and connect with a passionate global community. Four days of mind expanding science, heart-opening experience, and deep transformation.”

Some other presenters this year include:

Deepak Chopra: world-renowned pioneer in integrative medicine and personal transformation

Ervin Laszlo: Philosopher, author, and Nobel Prize Nominee

Dan Siegel: Founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA

Shamani Jane: President and CEO of the Consciousness and Healing Initiative (CHI)

John a. Powell: Director of the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at UC Berkeley

Dean Radin: IONS Chief Scientist, author, and distinguished professor

Pat McCabe: Writer, Artists, and Speaker on Indigenous Ways of Knowing/Science for Thriving Life

Rupert Sheldrake: Biologist and renowned author

Cassandra Vieten: IONS President, mind-body medicine researcher, and author

Flipping the Script on Climate Change

May 10, 2019 by Adrian

What is the biggest threat to humanity and the planet today? Charles Eisenstein presents a radical take on this question that subverts both the dominant narrative of global warming, as well as the narrative of the skeptics. Moving beyond the conventional framing of the ecological crisis, he recasts it through the “Living Earth” paradigm, opening the door to a deeper ecological consciousness that is part of humanity’s initiation into a new role on Earth.

Climate Change Inside and Out

April 19, 2019 by Adrian

A deep part of us knows that the earth climate is intimately connected to the political climate, social climate and spiritual climate. This weekend offers a radical take on earth healing that totally rewrites the climate narrative. This is not just an ideas workshop — be prepared to do inner work, to release the despair narrative and to embrace an activated, empowered hope for planetary healing.

Note: For this workshop, participants will pay Esalen for accommodations only. The course fee is self-determined. At the end of the workshop, participants will choose a tuition amount that reflects their feeling of value, gratitude and desire to support Charles Eisenstein and his ongoing work.
